Ok, Mac is a little different, but easier to connect to the network than windows. First what Version OS Mac are you working on?
Yes, you can run the same type of ipv4 and 6 I.P schemes just like you can on windows.CompTia A+ Certified

I use the 10.6 version.
the Mac is connect to the internet via wireless provided by the building manager which has the IP some like 172.23..xxx.xxx.
So i set up a wire network for them and using IP 192.168.XXX.XXX. via router with switches ( so they can print and scan)
However every time the wire network is connected. the internet is cut off. But it still show airport is connected. Please help. thanks.Comment

Ok... What you need to do is go to the big black Apple in the top left corner of the computer and pull up the system preferences. After that, go to NETWORK under the Internet and Wireless. At that point you should have three choices Wireless, Ethernet and Firewire on the left. Make sure that the lock that is on the bottom left is unlocked so that you can make changes to this. If not, then you need to click on it and insert the correct credentials (username and password). Click on the wireless option on the left. On the right hand side of the plane, you should see a radio button that says "Turn Airport Off", click that and that will disable the wireless so that you can only have a wired connection.
Let me know if that works.CompTia A+ Certified
