This past day I've been dragged into fixing a 3235C which basically had all this done to it:
1. Customer called and said machine doesn't power on
2. Tech proceeds to replace any/all boards from another 3235C until the machine powers on
3. Code 995
5. Tech continues fiddling with it
6. Code 819
7. Loaner sent out to customer, 3235 brought back to our warehouse for closer examination (ie, more space to work)
8. A different tech goes through the same procedure of swapping boards from another machine
9. Machine loses all settings, specifically language. Menu items are blank.
At this point, I got involved, and here's what I've done:
1. Replaced the board with the HDD/RAM (controller board? the service manual wasn't too clear), turns out the 2nd tech put in the wrong model
2. Replaced the BCU board, forgot to replace the IC chip
3. Tech #3 decides to organize the warehouse on my day off, original BCU board forever lost
4. SC 195
I also got in touch with a buddy of mine at another company that's more into Ricoh machines than me (I'm mostly an NEC guy), and he told me that I'm basically SOL, with 2 options:
1. Talk to Ricoh
2. Re-program the IC chip to use a different serial number, but my guy doesn't have the memory map so he won't know where to look for the serial number. For some odd reason on the machine he had (most likely a different model), he was able to modify SP 5-811-002 with no issues.
My question to the community is, do I have any other cards to play?
If I talk to Ricoh, would they be able to send us a replacement just for the IC chip or the whole BCU board? My boss hates the words "replace" and "board" when they're used in the same sentence unless there's a "we don't need to" in the same sentence.
