Ricoh aficio MP c4500 (Gest. DSc545) red streak on black copies

When doing black prints or copies a red streak is appearing on pages. There was prior to this about 4 inches of black lines and streaking and sometime red streaks. The Black drum unit was changes and the transfer belt cleaner blade was encrusted with toner on area of blade corresponding to streaks/lines.
After removing encrusted toner from blade and changing black drum unit all lines disappeared. That was yesterday and today the customer has called to say a red streak is appearing on prints and copies when copying black and white.
Not much experience on this model but would assume from magenta drum unit though I don't know why it should be coming onto black prints. Any help is very much appreciated. Frank/ActionPhotocopy

Replace the transfer cleaning unit. It's rated for about 160k.

Also check the charge roller in the Magenta PCU. Even though the transfer unit is cammed away when doing black only, the pcu will attract toner to its surface where the charge roller is significantly dirty and mechanically transfer to the paper as it passes, the gap isn't that great.

Thanks for the info.I already cleaned the cleaner unit so I will change transfer belt cleaning unit and clean the charge roller area of magenta drum unit. Hopefully I won't need to change drum unit as customer has already spent a decent amount of $ and says he doesn't need to do color prints/copies.Frank

Cleaned out magenta drum unit and installed new transfer belt cleaning unit. Hopefully that will take care of problem. Will update status in a week or two. Frank

Had the same... eventually had to replace the Magenta PCU... they only had 1000 color prints on theirs, but they still go bad from age I guess. They still are used every time it says it doing a self check.

Anyone know if the cleaning roller under the drum unit for MPC4500 can be found seperately?

If you mean the sponge roller that is behind the charge roller in the pcu... No.
Ricoh & Microsoft may pay the bills but Un*x saves my ass every day.

                      We all WISH they were.
