Don't forget that this model does not have a hard drive and depending on what version, the memory is limited. DDST has 64MB ram, GW has 384MB, the copier itself has only 16MB engine memory.Comment

I've never seen a message on the control panel when an email (or folder) limit has been reached - it sounds like an internal memory limit has been hit.
I don't have any DDST machines out there, so I can't say first hand.“I think you should treat good friends like a fine wine. That’s why I keep mine locked up in the basement.” - Tim HawkinsComment

Im with totoro on this one. I have experienced the exact error and it was an issue with the customer email box capacity.

Customer said he and IT guy could not figure out the cause with above suggestion. They gave up and want me to solve. I have talked with this IT guy 1 time before, he seemed to be an impatient tech.Comment

Try the same with scan to folder, if the memory runs out after 18 pages too, it;s a memory limitation on the machine. If it doesn't, it's well and truly in their court. It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.
Hit it.Comment

At a minimum they have to be able to tell you the limits on their own server as far as attachment size. Try sending an email from one users desktop to another with attachments in increments of 5MB. See if it fails at any certain point, at least you'll be able to point to it as a problem or not.Comment

Here are a couple of other ways to test also.
If you have a company laptop, just hook it up directly and setup scan to folder to it, or setup setup another email box with the techs help with a 20+mb size and then scan to it.
The test directly to your laptop will completely eliminate their network and you will quickly find out if its a mfp issue or not. If it works then its as TonerMunkeh said, the ball is in their court. At least then its a billable issue and you can advise your customer of that.
I have done this several times and have pissed off the IT guy on several occasions much to the dismay of their manager. One manager ok'd the additional charges, gave me the server passwords for Exchange and had increased the mailbox size to 50MB from the 20MB it was originally and voila. It worked. When I looked at the users storage it was like at 18+MB and there was no more room. I billed the customer for 1hr of labor, took me only 20 minutes, and the manager was happy; though he was not happy with his tech who insisted it was the mfp. So much for his paper MCSE.Ricoh & Microsoft may pay the bills but Un*x saves my ass every day.
