[Jamming] Ricoh 4224c Always Jamming ..

This one is driving me nuts ..

Customer machine "started to jam" .. They are quite evasive about info .. Hardly used .. <50k colour, 100k b/w .. So, somewhat suspicious .. No (current) contract .. No history ..

Jams on B on most feeds, and from both trays .. Tray 2 does not auto size correctly (correctly set to manual) ..
Rarely actually a sheet in machine in feed path .. Usually still in either tray ..
If does feed sheets often slightly or badly creased, or actually jammed ..

When does work, which it does sometimes, print quality quite good ..

Small amount of oil in bottom .. Found small spring there too .. Cannnot place where it should be .. May be just a lost / replace, from previous visit ..

Checked for debris .. Nothing ..

Ideas appreciated, as not seen this before ..

Sounds like you're describing two different types of jams. If paper is in the tray, then you have a misfeed. Check the feed rolls, sep pad and clutch. The creased jam is usually caused by a stuck relay clutch - it's not disengaging when the paper passes the registration roller and drives the paper into a fold. I had this yesterday with the upper relay clutch. I did an output check and it clicked on but not off. I opened the side door and tried to rotate the relay rollers and they were locked until I applied a little more force and it released.
Post a picture of the spring and where it was found specifically, maybe someone can recognize it. Always a chance that it may be related to the issues.

      thanks

it's a standard tension spring .. it was found at the bottom, near the drive motors .. i'll work through the parts manual again .. it may just have been dropped and replaced .. as opposed to dropped and ignored ..

will start to get the paper to feed out of both trays .. just odd that it fails on both trays ..
