    [Misc] Scanning and power issue

My first day here so I apologize if this is someplace. I read but did not find it. My office has a Ricoh Aficio MPC6501. It is hooked up to our network and we all use it to scan documents and save it to our folders. The scanning function is not working. We have lost the connection somehow. Our IT person is out. In reading the first option says to just power it off and let it sit and power it back up and see if that resets it. However, that is not as easy as it sounds. The sticker on the side by the power button says that you close the lid and then press the main power on button and the light should go off. If it is on or blinking it is not safe to power off the machine. We can not get the light to go off. We press it to turn it off and it just blinks, so we are afraid to power off the unit.

    Any thoughts????

    Thanks so much,

    Michelle

These big machines can take awhile to completely power down, especially if there's something running in the background. Go through each function of the machine (Copy, Doc Server, Printer, Scanner, etc) and press and hold the yellow Clear Modes button and red Stop button at the same time for about five seconds in each mode. This will help to clear any processes running in the background for every mode. Then try turning off the op panel power button and see if the time to go out is shorter.

Overall, it sounds like you have a bigger issue at play then just a hiccough in the scanner function.

if the machine light just blinks and not going off you can try to press the energy saver button then the power button.

Thank you so much for the information. It worked.

We cleared everything and it powered down just fine. Then we let it sit and then unplugged and replugged in our network cable and then started it all up again and it is working just fine. Sometimes - just patience and the easiest solutions work. Thanks again it will really help our day.
