    Gestetner DSM 627 scanning

Have a machine that when you hit the scan button it tells you there is no hard drive installed. This machine
does have a print/scan board with a hard drive and i have search the service manual over and over but cannot come up with why it would say no hard drive.

Start from checking the connections(harness) from HD to boaRD then if still the same replace the harddisk.

I tought the machine would code out and not copy or print if the hard drive was bad or had a bad connection.

You won't get a code if the HDD is completely non-functional, as in no power to the drive or cable not connected. Usually you would get an SC if the HDD is seen by the machine but not responding as expected or corrupted.

if no hd installed you can see address book error(sc 870) and when you press doc server and scanning it will tell you no hd installed.

Does any one know where to get the hard drive from and the cost of it. Also do you think if we reformat the old hd will it work.

you can buy it from local PC store. take out the old hd from the machine and bring it with you when you buy new HD -80 GB to 160 GB. I dont know if higher than 160 GB is compatible. this machine uses parallel connection.

                of 1-11.

There has to be something missing on this machine, 2 brand new hard drives installed formatted and still no hd
when we hit scanner button we can also save data for the address book so i know the hd is okay.Is there a printer only dimm
and a printer/scanner dimm or they all the same.

There is 64MB resident memory and the 128MB dimm option. I'm pretty sure the address book will store in memory on the FCU without the HDD installed/operational since these devices can be configured basic with a fax and no hard drive. I'm leaning toward no power to or data from the HDD due to a bad connector (power or IDE). Can you hear/feel the HDD spin up when you power up? Do a voltage check first on the power cable for the HDD.

*There is only a printer/scanner dimm available for this

You can hear the hd turning, but when i remove the old hd and installed the new one everything in the address book is gone
and when i reinstalled the old hd they reappear and the ones i put on the new one that i made up that where not on the old one are gone but the others are still there. So this is why i am comfused it the only machine that we pickup on maintance
with a company that had several other different model copiers so i know very little about this machine.
