BTW you can use gmail without SSL. Login to the gmail account & go to Mail Settings. Set Browser Connection to Don't Always Use HTTPS. The SMTP server is now aspmx.l.google.com on Port 25. This works with or without Authentication.
While that technically will work, it only allows you to send to email addresses at gmail.com.

On machines that do not support SSL or TSL to send via Gmail use "aspmx.l.google.com" as the SMTP server port 25. This will enable you to send with the domain, within Gmail itself or any organization using Googles hosted domain service.
