[Misc] Gestetner DSM660 - End user tried to set up scanning and Activated User Code-STUCK!

Gestetner DSM660 - End user tried to set up scanning and Activated User Code Authentification, now the screen is stuck at login and he does not know what code, login, or password he put in. Machine is frozen at Login Screen (ala page 9 in the Operator Guide). Service Manual so far shows no way just to safely "reset" the machine again so the customer can continue to use.

We want to just go back to how it was One Second before this customer screwed it up.

Any experience with this type of problem?

    Thanks in advance

Not sure that it was necessary to pick it up. Let's be sure we're talking about the same thing, User Codes are enabled in User Tools and can be disabled the same way......

        Specifying User Code Authentication
        1. Press the [User Tools/Counter] key.
        2. Press [System Settings].

        3. Press [Administrator Tools].

        4. Press [User Authentication Management].

        5. Select [User Code Authentication].

If you do not want to use user authentication management, Select [Off].

        6. Select which of the functions of the device you want to limit.

The selected settings will be available to users.

        7. Press [OK].
        8. Press the [User Tools/Counter] key.

        -------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now if User Tools itself is locked out with login/password request because the enduser enabled Administrator Authentication Management (the setting just below User Authentication Management), then you need to try "admin" as the login and leave the password field blank (these are the defaults). If they changed the login and/or the password from default, then try logging in as "supervisor" and again leave the password field blank. If you can get in using "supervisor", then the only credentials you have is to reset the Admin login/password settings. After resetting, you can go back into User Tools and disable the User Authentication Management as described above.

*If the supervisor login is changed from default and no one knows what it is, then you will have to replace the NVRAM.

Thank for your detailed account. We have actually tried all of this so far..... They have changed the default log in (admin does not work) and we CAN log in as Supervisor. But any button pushed after that point gets a "Do not have priviledges to use this function" message. That is even just to look at the Counter or Firmware Version. The machine thinks it is under attack by the CIA and is resistent to WaterBoarding.

No Button we touch on the menu under supervisor allows us to do anything. Logged in as supervisor we cannot even turn off the beep on keyboard as apparently that is too lofty for our priviledges.

When logged in as supervisor, the only function you have is to reset the administrator login and password, all other functions are null. Once you reset the admin credentials (use "admin" and no password), you can log out and then log back in with "admin" /no password and THEN disable the administrator management.
PM me if you want the Security Reference Guide.

            From the Security Reference Guide......
            ----------------------------------------------------

            Resetting an Administrator’s Password

            A Press the {User Tools/Counter} key.
            B Press [Login].
C Log on as the supervisor.
You can log on in the same way as an administrator.
            D Press [System Settings].
            E Press [Administrator Tools].
F Press [Program / Change Administrator].
G Press [Change] for the administrator you wish to reset.
H Press [Change] for the login password.
I Enter the login password, and then press [OK]. *You can leave it blank and press [OK]
J If a password reentry screen appears, enter the login password, and then
            press [OK].
            K Press [OK].
            L Press [OK].
            M Press the {User Tools/Counter} key.

You can press User Tools/Counter and then press and hold the # key as you press System Settings on the touch panel. This will reset all the settings back to default, after confirmation on the touch panel. This should reset the user codes to the off selection. I think you can reset the administrator code with SP7-810.

SP7-810 is for the earlier models (B064-1060/1075)) that utilized a Key Operator code, that won't be an option on this model.

Any you're logged in as "supervisor"? If that's the case, then I guess you will need to change out the nvram. Never heard of a situation when you couldn't change the administrator in supervisor mode, but I guess there's always a first time.
