Also make sure your email server does NOT use SSL. If it does, you will need to disable if possible. If you use a public email (such as gmail) and cannot turn it off, you're a little bit dead in the water.

Not to mention the machine you chose is quite possibly the worst Ricoh machine in the last 15-20 years. Sorry to shatter any disillusion you may have, but they are stinkers.
the savin2535 is displaying well bet the hiter lamp is not shining and the lamp had been tested o.k.please kindly help.
Samir: No, not again. I... why does it say paper jam when there is no paper jam? I swear to God, one of these days, I just kick this piece of shit out the window.
Michael Bolton: You and me both, man. That thing is lucky I'm not armed.

Hi, I have tied alternative email server, with the settings changes suggested, but no joy - still getting - "CANNOT FIND SMTP SERVER. Check DNS or SMTP".

Chaunce, thanks - tho what do you mean by 'good DNS' , above? I have not found my Email providers direct ip address yet...

Or would I be better trying all this with the Crossover cable (given that my XP laptop is networked wirelessly?).

      cheers, D

Did you try to allow port 3670 in your pc's firewall when setting up scanrouter to scan to folder.

DNS=Domain Name Service. It is what allows the machine to resolve the hostname of the mail server to an IP address. If it cannot resolve the name, it cannot connect to it. You can bypass this by using the IP address of the mail server instead of the hostname, allowing the machine to connect to it without having to query the DNS server to resolve the hostname.

As for scanrouter, as somebody above suggested, you probably just have to make in exception in windows firewall to allow scanrouter to connect to the copier. instead of opening the port directly, I usually just click add program and browse to C:\Program Files\RDS\SrScanDr.exe. That usually does the trick.

You'll need the DNS IP that your network uses for resolving computer names to IP addresses. The white papers on scanning can be found here

If the white papers don't help, you're best bet is to call your local service provider for some help. Yes, you will likely have to pay for it but it will be done correctly and that's how we technicians put food on the table.

Thanks to all you chaps, I will have a work-thru of all tips over the weekend and (hopefully) report back soon!

              D.

PS - I take on board the comments about this machine but it really is working great as a printer, duplex copier etc for me at the moment (I'm not a heavy user, a one-man-band lawyer) so perhaps I'm not as demanding as most of you guys' clients. Thanks again.
