    Mpc 2500 fax problem

we have just upgraded a customer from 2232c to a used mpc 2500. the customer has never had a problem with their fax on their 2232c. yesterday we delivered them the mpc 2500 using the same fax cable from their old 2232c and it was working fine without any problems during the install.
next day faxes some faxes are not being recieved saying transmission failed from the other end and some people are sending ok. some faxes are only recieved showing have a page.

can it be the fax board or is it going to be a firmware upgrade that might solve the problem??

    faxes are sending ok

    what can it be??

Try it with a new cable first, the grey type. I've noticed they can be a bit odd with older cables. A firmware update can't hurt either. I assume you're not getting any line noise or dial tone drop out when you're using the on-hook button?
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

    Hit it.

First at all, make sure that you use only a 2 wired cable, not a full connected.
Second, check the environment: does the customer use "Voice over IP" ?

Also check to see if ECM is off. It's buried in the Fax SP's now but turning it off can solve a lot of issues.

Does a Message like "use Headset" appear?

check the NCU settings in the fax SP, make sure country code is correct, also do a fax line level adjustment (cable equalization)

x2 on the ECM. Fax SP1104002 bit 0 should be 0 to turn off ECM.

i have had this problem before. go to SP mode select fax. SP1105 G3 Switch 03 set 00000010 (disable V8/V34 protocol) should fix your problem.

ok, i assume, that you have the firmware up to the latest and greatest in between

try setting the country setting to "other", this will spread the tolerance window as wide open, as possible. (dont forget to set the dialing method back to tone)

I ask again: sure, that your customer has no VOIP ?

As a last resort, you can try the following, but i doubt, that this is helpful in your case. Anyway, if all else fails, its worth a try:

enter fax service mode like in the picture:

                      fax_settings.jpg

                      change RAM-Adress:
                      00680576 to 01
                      00680577 to 05
                      00680578 to 05
                      00680582 to 05

Good luck and keep us informed, if something helps

To cut long story short: you are using your internet connection to transmit your phone calls. (for detailed information ask google and wikipedia)
The main problem with this connections is here to read:

Support for sending faxes over VoIP implementations is still limited. The existing voice codecs are not designed for fax transmission; they are designed to digitize an analog representation of a human voice efficiently. However, the inefficiency of digitizing an analog representation (modem signal) of a digital representation (a document image) of analog data (an original document) more than negates any bandwidth advantage of VoIP. In other words, the fax "sounds" simply do not fit in the VoIP channel.
This leads to effects, you described, and is a pain in the ass to get rid of.

in fact, you are impelled to screw the fax modem down to 9600 bps, disable ecs and more settings are necessary; for detailed information about ricoh fax modems settings for VOIP contact me after you have made sure, that your customer really uses it
