I normally just download the revelant file on to the sd card and its done.

What data are you trying to read the nvram data downloaded can be read in a text file but means nothing to me.

the pcmcia cards are in .bin format typical bin files. The SD cards are in .fwu format probably could be read as bin but who cares??

Ricoh does have its own software and it is most probably a version on UNIX.
The question is - what do you want to do?
The idea of "pimping your copier" may seem fun, but in reality, customers just want a piece of paper to come out with good reliability.

IF your trying to read the system cards ,print scan or postscript cards good luck! a binary read or clone might be the best bet. As for the file format and lang, probably proprietary!! Find a hacker head. As for pimping your copier thats what the java VM option is for. Never seen it used!!!

Ok we need more info here, What are you trying to do with the SD?
Are you trying to do a firmware upgrade??? are you trying to copy the Pring/Scan onto a Post Script SD????

I can help you with that. Or are you trying to do a Firmware upgrade with like a very large SD (2GB perhaps?)

The only problem that i could think of is people formatting the SD cards with software that is not compatible with the Ricoh family.
If that was what you are looking for just go to this link and download the software from them ((it actually is from Panasonic))
SD Memory Card Formatting Software | SD/SDHC Memory Card | Digital AV | Product Support | Support | Panasonic Global

This software formats SD Memory Card using a formatting program that complies with the SD Memory Card specification SD formatting provides quick and easy access to the SD Memory Card. Generally, SD Memory Card file systems formatted with generic operating system formatting software do not comply with the SD Memory Card specification.

I don't have an of the SD cards with me, so I cannot experiment with this right now, soo...

But, I had a program several years ago that would read all sorts of file types... let me see if I can find it on my PC...

Yep! I found it! Brixoft > Product Information (Source Edit) They also have several other fun toys to play around with too. Not sure if this will read the files contained on a program SD card, but it's something to start with anyway.

                {EDIT} Now that I think about it... The programs on the SD cards would have to be compiled, so they would work and this program has a hard time reading files that have been compiled. Like, if you wrote a program in say C++, for it to work you have to compile it. In this case, this program will not actually show you the code of the program that you wrote in C++ because it has been compiled (turned into a program). This program can read all sorts of cryptic files like DLL's and other though. Give it a try and see what happens. Who knows! {/EDIT}

Ricoh uses a custom NetBSD (Unix) operating system on their machines.
But the SD cards should be able to be read with a generic reader.
I sucessfully read the contents of a MPC4500 system card today without a problem.

But even though you can read/copy the files it does not mean that they would work on another sd card.
If the card in question is copyright protected (like the PS3 cards) they use some form of DRM / authentication checking.

As far as I know this copy protection has not been cracked.

Yes changing the default display lauguage is possible.
You just need the correct firmware and a generic SD card and writer.
