    [Misc] counter

    Hey guys I have replaced NVRAM and the counter returns to ZERO. Is there in any way we could make the counter be still the same before NVRAM was replaced.

    No. the counter data is stored on the NVRAM. Depending on the model, you'll have to use the mechanical counter. The way to transfer NVRAM settings, including the counter, is to download it from the old NVRAM and upload to the new one. However, it usually transfers whatever problem you had with the old chip to the new one.

      So there is no chance to retain the counter as it is before replacing the NVRAM. Anyway, *jonhiker* thank you for your reply.

        I don't remember if those boxes have a backup function for the NVram or not.

        After thinking about it, nope they would never let you back up the meter. What is to keep you from doing a backup when the copier has 500 copies on it, then run 50000 and back it back up to the original 500.
        Color is not 4 times harder... it's 65,000 times harder. They call it "TECH MODE" for a reason. I have manual's and firmware for ya, course... you are going to have to earn it.

          I'm dealing with this issue right now. I have an NVRAM Upload to an SD card and am planning to change the NVRAM chip. Has anyone done this? I expect it to not affect the counter as this would otherwise be a good cheat.
          The service manual says to do a memory all clear and re-input the non-default data manually. I don't like that as I'm against doing an all clear. The all clear removes the information for the ID sensors and CCD.

            I just recently had to replace an NVRAM on an MPC3001 to fix an issue that occurred after /during a firmware update. The DOSS option came up with an SD card authentication error. I called every level of support I could but nope, new NVRAM=lost counter data. I attempted a backup / restore and new NVRAM but my problem was transferred to the new chip, so it was manual entry of current non-default data on a virgin NVRAM. It would be nice if the chip had a flag set to allow pre-setting while the counter reads zero, but not after a value exists in the counter data. I'm sure such conditions could be met.

              I've got a good image from when the machine worked perfectly. All my problems at the moment are caused by me. This isn't customer facing so I can play a little, and I have a terrible habit of trying to hack things. My card authentication error was me trying to duplicate a print card. I believe I'm almost there.
