I have a customer that has a PC used as a file server (XP on it). There are 2 xp and 2 win7 workstations that have no problem accessing the scans folder. The workstation with Vista cannot access the folder. Setup, as far as I can tell the settings is identical on every system, full permissions and such. Is there something particular about SMB scanning with Vista that is different than the other OS's, other than the fact that Vista sucks?

I reread my post and decided I didn't explain my problem well. Basically, I have a Vista computer that cannot see a shared folder on an XP computer that is on the same network. All other computers (XP and Win7) on this network can access the folder fine. I will make sure both systems have the latest updates as the next step .I reckon I should have posted this on the connectivity forumNEVER ASSUME ANYTHINGComment

I think your right, Dude. I just got off the Microsoft site, and that you mentioned is one of then possible problems, along with built in firewalls. (I thought those were disabled). I've got a link to a download from them to address this specific issue to be installed on the XP machine. (the one with the shared file). I am a decent hardware engineer, but it takes me a while to wade through the IT end. Not knowing all of the terms slows my process down a bit. It just takes more time. This fix is going beyond my normal connectivity knowledge. However, I WILL friggin fix it. I hate a machine trying to outdo me.NEVER ASSUME ANYTHINGComment

I've had times when simply browsing the network from a vista or 7 system doesn't show a certain PC, or shared folder on the network, but I can access it if I go to "Start" and in the search box type the ip address of the machine I'm trying to access.
Example: \\ipaddress
I'm not sure why, but worth as tryComment

Depending on updates with the individual PCs this may be related to your problem. See if the update is installed and try removing it as a test.Jamex Tech Support: Saving the world one phone call at a time.Comment
