[Misc] Ricoh mpc3500 print spooling very very slow

    Hi,

we new machine ricoh mpc3500 and we ave installed it and did a test printing for a word file which contains scanned documents saved in the word file and organized, we are trying to print the file for 11 pages its take us between 15 to 25 mints of spooling and another 15 mint to print, for the same we used the normall hp color print and its priting it in less than 2 mints.

    Any suggestion

I would also increase the buffer size - User Tools/ Printer/ Host tab.

If there are a lot of PDF files in the doc, you might consider getting a postscript chip. They are an option on copiers but pretty much standard on printers

Thanks for replay, but most of the files are containe photo scanned which increases the file (EX. One word File = 6.++ MB) but if we peint PDF file it will print fast. Is that normall???

We did test the same file into other machine and it priniting fast, and if use Normal HP color Printer its also more faster, the copier should be faster than the normal printer.

Not necessarily. It depends on which machine is doing the processing. You might try a different driver. If you are using the PCL 6, switch to the 5c. If those dont satisfy, see if there is an RPCS driver. It will allow you use the computers processor rather than the copiers to interpret the job.

                I agree with Jomama.
I've seen the "PCl mini driver" behave this way. Install the specific PCL or RPCs driver for the machine

6mb is a big file, but 30 min. to print seems excessive. When you say 15 min. to spool, is that in the Print que or after it's processed on the computer and sent to the printer?

Try re-initializing the Printer & NCS - Sp5801-x. You'll have to re-enter the interface data after you do the NCS. You can also try reformatting the Printer & log partitions on the HDD - Sp5832-x, but I doubt that'll do much. These steps should eliminate most machine glitches.

Other options are: Change the port to LPR instead of RAW, but you may have to start the LPR service on the computer. Increase the print buffer size. Send the job to the Doc server & see how it acts. Swap out the memory.

Is there any way to convince the customer to save the word files with pictures in the PDF format before printing? Anytime you add pics to word, the size will get exponentially large. I created a single page word document with 2 pictures and saved it in both .doc and .pdf format. The .doc file size was 1.6M and the .pdf was 350K.

Slow printing or a memory overflow can be caused by any number of problems. However, in some cases, these have been reduced or solved using the "Memory Usage" setting. When troubleshooting slow printing and/or memory overflows, this should be one of the first workarounds tested.
Font Priority (System > Memory Usage):

Generally, "Font Priority" allocates more memory to PDL processing and less to image processing than the default "Frame Priority" setting. The amounts of memory vary by device.

                        xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Data volume might be too high Processing time depends on data volume. The device requires more time to process high volume data such as graphics-heavy documents.
If the data-in lamp is blinking, data has been received by the printer and is currently being processed. Wait a moment.
Making the following setting on the printer driver may reduce the computer's workload:
                        • PCL 5c/6
                          1. Open [Printing Preferences], and then click the [Print Quality] tab.

                          2. Click the lower value in the [Resolution] box.

                        • PostScript 3
                          1. Open [Printing Preferences], and then click [Advanced].

                          2. In the [PostScript Output Option] box, click Optimize for Speed.

Some Word Documents, especially with embedded Objects tend to blow up enourmously in Size while Printing, i have seen this several Times. Try to convert it to PDF and print it again, what happens? Would you mind to send me the File in question? I will try to print it on a MPC4500 and see, how long it takes.

                            Dear teebee,

many thanks for your efforts, we convert it the file to .pdf format and its printing somehow fast, and we have informed the customer about it and they shall use the pdf format from now on.

Never the less we are testing your suggestion / solution and we shall update it later.

                            Thank
