    AP3800C Toner supply problem

    Hi all, I'm not a tech but...

    I've been experiencing the problem of my AP3800 constantly loading toner (magenta) and eventually going to "add toner - magenta" despite there being plenty of toner in the cartridge.

    I read this thread, and this one, and one on another forum.

    I've checked that the dev unit is spinning, then I did a forced toner refresh to no avail, then started to take things apart to check the pipes etc. When I removed the cover below the toner cartridges, I could feel a solid block of toner in one of the white pipes coming from the magenta. I cleared it by pulling off the pipe and gently rolling it between thumb and finger over the hoover nozzle.

    When I reassembled everything and switched on, the machine went to "loading toner" and then back to "add toner". When I went to open up the machine again there was toner all over the place!. And yes, I had put the pipe back on securely - this photo, showing where the blockage was, was taken after the spillage.

    I don't have a clue what to do next - but I do have another complete machine for spares...

    Any help / advice / suggestions much appreciated.

    Please bear with me if I do not respond immediately - I have to be up for work in less than 4 hours time

    TIA

        @DiskCopy, aah, forgot to mention, tried that first a couple of weeks ago. Thought for a while I had fixed it...

        @Paul, I have a service manual thanks.

          OK, I know Initialize the TD with a used Dev unit is not the right thing to do, but try to Initialize Magenta Dev Unit.

            You need to replace the toner supply unit. If you take the dev and drum unit out the toner supply unit is above the units at the back. Replace this and it should sort it out.

              Toner supply pipes block on occasions, often when using compatable toners, also toner pumps block, which can be stripped and cleaned. Possibly also air pumps become weak. Old and tired machines !

                  I have stripped and cleaned the toner supply units on these before, but as it sometimes doesn't work I would recommend putting new ones in. Also it's a bit of pain to get them out so it save a bit of time if clearing them out doesn't work.

                    Could you verify that the toner supply unit can be accessed from the front of the machine? (after taking out the drums and developers? You don't have to remove the transfer unit also? Thanks

                      Yes you do have to remove the transfer belt and the rail the dev unit runs on, you do need quite a long screw driver to get to the screws. Also you could do with taking the back off and the fly wheels of as there is a plastic bushings at the back of the unit that may fall
                      Out when you put the unit back in.
