    Lanier SPC232SF scan to email

Hi All, we have recently purchased a little Lanier SPC232SF for the company owners house, we have 7 larger commercial machines at various offices so I am quite familiar with ricoh/Lanier. However this machine has been by far the hardest to setup. Scan to email has been set up using smtp, our isp does not require authentication and we have the correct dns servers and have an admin email account. When we load a document into the autofeeder to scan and press the appropriate speed dial button and black and white scan, it does not feed the document simply says connected to server and then after 30 seconds says connection error. I have had lanier out twice to try and correct and they cany find anything wrong with the setup although they admit to not being as familiar with the smaller machines. Lanier have told me they will contact the lanier knowledge base and get back to me but I was hoping some one here may have an Idea
    Thanks in advance

A couple of things spring to mind:

    1. Are you using the IP address or fully qualified name of the mail server? Try the opposite setting of what you have in the machine now.
    2. Does your ISP use a non standard port for SMTP? Check the ISP's support page for setting up an email client and confirm the ports.
    3. Does the ISP use SSL? I don't think this model supports it.
    4. Are you using a generic email address for all scans to come from, or are individual users using the machine so that the email appears to come from them? Make sure that all addresses configured in the address book that you want to send from are listed both as a destination and sender.

Does this model have a system log when you log into WIM? I would check the log for more clues as to what is going on. Sometimes it shows smtp error codes that you can look up on google to get more insight as to what the problem may be. I would try using port 587 instead of 25, or use a gmx mail account or something like that to test it.
