    [Misc] How to disable scanner for Aficio 1035?

    I wanted to disable scanner function as most of our chip supplied comes with both printer and scanner (in a single chip). Printer is all right but we do not want customer to use scanner as TWAIN gives a lot of issue esp when the machine is not good enough to to support DesktopBinder Lite (since 3rd party software cost license). We usually ask them to take Aficio 2035e and above which cost extra to customer.

    Initially we just provide support for printer only but somehow some of the network administrators (after being repeated 'asked' by users to install the scanner) figure it out how and installed the scanner which ended up causing occasionally hang on both PC and machine. This ended up with techs going to solves the scanner problem that wasn't even part of the service agreement. This then lead to some argument between techs-sales-customers.

    Anyway, the quickest solution seems to be disable the scanner but no one know how. Any ideas?

      How about just remove the scanner keytop so they will not know it exists

          Exactly, just put a blank keytop in. Like I do with the "other function" key on the new machines. Then I don't have to explain it/

              did that, they found out the scanner function when they check the meter in user tools menu (printer features, scanner features). Since they have several machines of the same model in other dept, it wouldn't take long to figure out the machine has scanner as well (After comparing menu). Somehow, TWAIN seems to operational without needing the button.

              we did sent the machine with black keytop for scanner...in fact when they called us the problem (for scanner), one of their staff cheekily told us they found a 'hidden' function in the machine.

                  I've had a nosey through the service manual and can't see any way of disabling it. You'll just have to either remove both the printer and scanner options or warn the customer that any tampering with machine functions not provided or set up when the machine goes in will result in a chargeable call.
                  It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

                      oh well, no choice then.. :/

                          You could remove the NIC card and print via a parallel cable, which disables the scanner. Then again, this creates a whole other set of issues...
