    [Misc] Hard drives

    Hello all.
Once again I am requesting hard drive information for machines I have never seen or worked on. Sharp, Kyocera and Minolta's are my normal thing. We are replacing a couple machines and I need to remove and secure erase the hard drives on two machines before they get sent back to the leasing company. My question is, does the MP5500 and the MP9000 have hard drives in them, and if so, where are they located? Also, we have signed paper that we are not liable if the machine doesn't work after the drive is cleared. On Sharp a freshly formated hard drive works fine, but on Ricoh DDP70's, special software must be loaded for them to work. If they have drives in them, will they work with blank hard drives in them? What if I format them after the wipe?

    Thanks everyone.

    Re: Hard drives

You can either send them to Hytech to be certified destroyed and buy new ones from them at a discount. Or send them the drives to be ripped and returned.
You can format them in the machine but it wont really be getting rid of anything but the FAT pointers.

      Re: Hard drives

Both of those machines have HDD's and located in the controller box.
On the MP5500, take off both back covers and you will see the controller on the left side. Remove the panel(yes, it is a lot of screws), unplug the drive, and then do your secure erase. When the HDD is replaced into the machine, it should start up and run with no problem.

The MP900 is located on the other side, the right side. Follow the same procedure.

In eith er case, firmware will not have to be reloaded, you may have to format the HDD from service mode using SP5832-1.
