    Scan to folder

Guys, any ideas why scan to folder is not working in MP 3010 using Windows 7?I did all the sharing settings I know but no luck. Do I have to update the firmware to make it work?

    Your ideas are highly appreciated.

There are a few issues with SMB-scanning to Windows 7, so a firmware upgrade can't hurt.

What windows 7 you are using? If you are using windows 7 ultimate/professional try to change the security policy.
      Computer side.
      Start -- Run> type secpol.msc
Open up the local security policy > Navigate to Local Policies -> Security Policies

Change Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level to: Send LM & NTLM - Use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated.
Close security policy and reconnect to the share. If it still doesnt work change the encryption level to not require 128 bit encryption.
Open Network security: Minimum session security for NTLM SSP based (including secure RPC) clients and uncheck the require 128 bit.
Open Network security: Minimum session security for NTLM SSP based (including secure RPC) servers and uncheck the require 128 bit.
      Restart the computer.

Review the settings on the Windows 7 computer under Contol Panel>Network and Internet>Network and Sharing Center>Advanced Sharing Settings. Confirm that the settings are set for sharing the necessary folders.

        Turn off Password.
Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center\Advanced sharing settings\Password protected sharing.
        Try this.

          Re: Scan to folder

This machine needs to have the firmware updated to current versions to scan to Windows 7.

While you very well may have security issues as listed above, you won't get anywhere with old firmware.

A few of my techs seem to be allergic to changing firmware, (a different subject for a different post!), and I've had to follow behind them with my SD card 3 times now to get this model to scan to Windows 7.

            Re: Scan to folder

Can we all just agree to a few basic issues with scanning to Windows 7/Vista to Ricoh equipment:

            1. If your machine is below the AF 3xxx series, scan to folder isn't going to happen without making changes to the server/workstation that may not be in the best interest of the customer (NTLMv2 is after all a security setting).

            2. If your machine is in the SF 3xxx series and higher, for the love of all that is holy and decent please update the firmware before asking for help.

            3. Active Directory and CIFS work off the idea of rights: your account can or cannot access this file or that file, you can or cannot change the folder or file. Make sure the permissions are correct for the account you're trying to use. A lot of network admins I know are going to limited accounts for all of their users: it cuts down on virus and malware issues, but it does make a bit of an issue with troubleshooting.

            4. Both Vista and Win 7 work with an additional layer of security to allow the machine to disable certain functions depending on the type of network the computer is connected to. So out of the box, if you're network is recognised as a 'Public' network access to share folders is disabled. If the computer is not on a domain, make sure the computer knows it's on a trusted (i.e. home or work) network.

            5. The Home versions of Vista and 7 can be a little trickier to set up as the network and security settings will not allow you to set a security policy, or bind the machine to a domain. For some set ups, this is great, but every now and then you'll get a DFU trying to use a Home Premium machine on a domain level network.

You poor sod, I feel your pain here. Win7 isn't making much sense to me either, rthonpm gives good advice.

                Thanks Jonesy:

One other thing to keep in mind:

The administrator account is disabled by default in both Vista and Windows 7, whereas in XP it was configured as a hidden account. It can be re-enabled through computer management, but not all security policies will allow it to remain enabled, especially if there's a Server 2008 security or group policy in place.

I have had scan to cifs problems before (not sure if its exactly the same as scan to folder) on an Oki machine and they offered this solution for both win 7 home and ultimate versions, if may be of your interest to take a look here: Unable to scan to CIFs (Windows 7 & Vista) | OKI Printing Solutions - Global home
