    Re: thermopiles

    For real?

Any device consisting of multiple thermocouples used for generating current or the measurement of heat. I think always they are made from 2 different types of metals which react very differently when temperature changes ie. expansion contraction.

    Thats what I reckon anyway.

The thermopile acts like a non-contact thermistor. It "looks" at the fusing belt and "sees" the amount of heat generated. The Ricoh MP C3500/4500 for instance has one above the fusing unit in the frame. (See the Detailed Descriptions in the SM).

so its temperature control or safety cutout, (I read they need to be cleaned, kinda sounds like infra red stuff) The fusing units (mpc 3000) have two contact thermistors already

Only a quick and VERY gentle wipe over with a cloth.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

          Hit it.
