My boss has just bought in an MP5000 from the trade, we're getting dark bands across the copies (see attatchments, apologies for the quality, taken on my blackberry)IMG00377-20110922-1507.jpgIMG00378-20110922-1511.jpg varying amounts, sometimes just a thin band sometimes most of the copy is dark. It's not an overtoning problem by the look of things, most of the copies are ok and the white bits within the bands are clear. We're thinking possibly drum but we haven't got one in stock to try at the moment. Has anyone had this problem before? We don't have any of these out, and looking at the feedback on here about them maybe tha's a good thing.

Re: MP5000 dark bands
The cause is most likely the DV-Unit. Toner is sticking to the Development Roller. You can try to clean the DV-Roller and replace the developer. Make sure you're using the original toner. The black lines are caused by a dirty/worn charge roller.Comment

Re: MP5000 dark bands
Also make sure the machine has a newer style developer unit. It should have three filtres instead of one big one. Definitely looks like the charge roller is shot though. This model rarely goes past its PM yield, especially if it's had a lot of the old toner used in it in the past. A full PM and cleaning of the PCU and Developer wouldn't be a bad thing.Comment

Re: MP5000 dark bands
Cheers. I've not got any consumables to put in it at the moment, we'll order some in. Just cleaned the charge roller bearings, given the charge roller a good scrub and tightened up the contacts, copies ok at the moment, we'll throw a new drum and dev in it when it comes in.Comment

Re: MP5000 dark bands
Don't just do the drum and dev tho. Make sure you replace the charge roller, blade, brush, drum and developer as a set. Vac out the recycle coil at the top of the PCU and put a piece of paper inbetween the PCU/dev unit toner supply entrance when you're initialising the developer. That'll help it set itself up correctly. It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.
