Ricoh 1802d Printing with Jet Direct

    Hey,

I don't usually work on the connectivity side of MFP's, but I went to a call today which was a bit strange, I sorted the issue but didn't know if anyone's had the same issue.

An Aficio 1802d was linked by LCT to a HP Jet Direct, from there it was an Ethernet connection. When the Customer printed documents, they'd get random prints of blank pages, but with something random on the top left ofthe page like "e=y6", I rebooted the HP Jet Direct and it was solved. Not sure why they're using this as the machine has a perfectly good RJ-45 port "which I pointed out" but wanted to know if anyone's seen anything similar.

    rj45

    hi,
just thinking and its off the top of my head. i went to an 1802 with an rj45 connection but they didnt have a printer kit installed. i was told that the rj45 came standard but you had to buy the printer/scanner kit. as far as the jetdirect boxes, they are a pain in the ass. if we ever have probs with them we normally just swap them(novatech is the best bet) or we have a word with sales to get a new machine in

Thanks for the Advice Tony I told them to talk to IT, but if it bounces I'll suggest that. I always assumed the Printer/scanner kit came with the RJ45 connector, must have been wrong :P And if they really want a JetDirect it's just a quick shoot down the M27 to Novatech I guess.

Nice enough shop, shame their memory's awful!

yeah i always thought they did, but after speaking to sales they said the rj45 came as standard as it was one of the first machines to be able to upgrade firmware using rj45, but you had to upgrade. easiest way would be to see if the machine had printer in user tools.Thats how I found it!!! if you ever need a jetdirect card, ive always got em on my truck!

Thanks for the offer but this is a small hub sitting down near the machine itself, I'll have to see what happens. It's another dealers machine so I guess it's their choice.

time for a new jet direct maybe.... I've witnessed this many times where the mfp has a nic and the customer's IT guy used an external print controller to LPT1. It's usually because they don't understand the mfp nic connection. Also there could be a problem with the parallel cable or lpt1 on the controller. Jet directs are pretty stable till they get old.
