    SMTP over TLS

I guess this is rearing its very ugly head again.

We just picked up a new customer (a school system) with existing Ricoh MP5500s and MP7500s, and we will be replacing those soon and adding new equipment, as well.

I got a call from their IT on Friday, and was told that they are moving from an internal Exchange 2003 mail server to a hosted Micro$oft solution.

The new server requires SMTP over TLS on Port 587.

While Ricoh machines support Port 587 for a ton of functions, SMTP isn't one of 'em. (Just try to get a straight answer on that one...)

Has anyone found a reasonable workaround? Being a school system, my friend GMX isn't an option.

    Re: SMTP over TLS

I set up smtp on port 587 all the time. Did you mean that they can't do TLS over port 587? That I'm not sure about. I don't think any of our customers have required that yet.

      Re: SMTP over TLS

Thanks, but Port 587 isn't the issue - I have a bunch of them set up that way, too.

The issue is SMTP over SSL. This is a very common situation for customers using a hosted (off site) version of Exchange.

This is the third time I've run into it.

The previous two customers set up an internal mail server just for the MFPs, so that was no big deal. This customer, on the other hand, isn't quite as easy to deal with as they are a school.

I've got a few alternatives in mind which I found on line - I'm just trying to determine the best one to recommend.
