ADD TONER MPC RANGE

jUST HEARD THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE OF A WEIRD FAULT ON A MPC 3500. EVERYONE WILL PROBABLY KNOW ABOUT THE THE TONER PUMPS GETTING BLOCKED AND EVENTUALLY NEED REPLACED.

A FELLOW ENGINEER JUST PHONED TO TELL ME ABOUT A SIMILAR FAULT BUT IT WAS THE LOWER RIGHT HAND DOOR NOT BEING CLOSED AT THE REAR. SUPOSEDLY THE TONER MSG OVERRIDES THE DOOR OPEN MSG...

jUST A HEADS UP BECAUSE A DOOR BEING SLIGHTLY OPEN WOULD HAVE BEEN ONE OF THE LAST THINGS I WOULD HAVE LOOKED FOR.

Yep, had it on the MP4000/5000, MPC3500-5501, basically anything that uses that type of lower paper bank. If I've ever got one that refuses to come out of toner end, I switch off toner end detection and reboot. That then tells me if anything else is hiding under the toner end notice.

have only seen this once on mp 4000, just wondering is the lower door already open when toner light comes on normally ,or is it the open door that causes a glitch add toner message (in other words does the machine need toner?)

Its that until you get rid of the toner message, you dont see the door open message. and it wont clear the toner until you close the door.
A catch-22 that kicked my ass for too long!

there is a small red open cover sign in the bottom let hand corner of the lcd screen but as you say the add toner message covers 95% of the screen so its a ball ache working it out. The manual states to recover from toner end you open and shut the front door or turn off and on. When you know the answer then yes the machine will still do nothing as its waiting for its checks to be completed i.e. door switches but its still frustrating for something so simple.

it kicked my butt too and I understand the need to close the door to add toner. Just trying to understand how the two messages appear at the same time, like was the door open already without a message, or does opening the front door (to add toner) cause the side door to pop open. havnt seen it for a while maybe it was a frimware fix. one of lifes mysteries....

if you turn the copier into not detect then you will see the door is open..

The front door is fairly obvious but for me it was the lower right door. It can appear closed but can still be "clicked" shut.
