    MPC 5501 drums question

A couple of these are just coming due for their first drums. Can you modify the black drums to fit the color units like the MPC 5000 series? If so is it the same precedure? Thanks

I've not tried yet but I would think you can.

According to the TPP the changes to the black drum are only to improve reliability as the PM target is 200k (CMY Drums 120k).

The price increase is no doubt reflective of the longer PM yields.
But we should stand to do well on the click from the extra 80k if the k drums units will convert to colour without to much hassle.

I've often pondered if they were to replace the charge roller ass'y for a corona wire and grid that these drum units could reach 240k+ before failure?

they used to do it with the 5560. balck charge wire and colour charge rollers and the black lasted a lot longer as it was the drum that went before the charge wire.

you will need to cut a metal plate off to get the mpc2800 black drums to fit in an mpc35001
as they have added a pin to the inside of the copier

I'd hazard a guess that it'd work in theory because they did it with the MPC7500 from the AF5560, but they'd have to add ozone filters and some kind of drum ventilation especially if all PCU units and not just the Black had corona assembles. I don't think there's any space provision within the frame for that kind of modification though so it would end up being a major re-design.

Yep, it is possable. Usual steps, file off the corner of the connector and swap wire 1 and 2 over on the plug that goes to the TD sensor. then a new step is to snap off the pin at the rear of the PCU mounting plate. We made up a jig that slots a rod over it, then you just rock it back and forward until it sheers off.

Just re-read your post and thought I better clarify that you cant use a MP C5501 K PCU as a colour one but you can use a K PCU from a MP C3300.

so is that you can use a mpc3300 black drum in an mpc5501 or a mpc3501?
