    AF200/250

I just had a customer come out of the woodwork with one of each of these. I had to order a PCU for the 250, does anyone know of any major issues with these machines? This is the first time I've seen these before and I'm sure before I can convince them to replace them that there will be some kind of issue with them. Thanks!

These machines are quite old as you know, but on the whole they aint a bad machine. Some of the problems i have had with these are: polygon motors seizing due to exhaust fan not rotating properly, noisy vertical feed sections (just lube the side bushings). And sometimes the charge rolloer clutch can tend to give problems.

The other bugbear of these machines is if they have a printer kit on them, if you need to change the ip addy, you need to remove the printer board, reset a dip switch, put the unit back in, take it out again, put the dipswitch back, switch the machine on again then do the arp command with the mac address and the new ip adress.

Apart from that, they are not bad, remember to set the sp mode so that the drum is initalised on install, think its sp 2-99?.

    Hope ths helps.

The 200 fusers are crap, the 250 fusers are much better since they use real bearings instead of the plastic bushings used on the 200.

        Thank you both.

I replaced the PCU on the 250 because of lines on the output, but it has not fixed the issue. I've ordered a transfer roller as well, but is there anything else I should look for? I don't have a sample to attach unfortunately. The lines looked a lot like drum or charge lines to me.

Could be the heat roller, or dirty optics.

lines could be optics, is it doing this from engine or scanning?

If its engine i would check fuser, as you have changed pcu this rules out most things.

Laser could be causing it, but normally causes feint parts.

i have had bad connection to drum charge at the back (where the pcu meets the connector) this would cause sporadic lines due to lack of charge.

If you can get a sample a more of an educated guess could be made.

              transfer, laser

transfer assy will cause void bands. this actually comes from worn out bushings nit making contact. the fix is to replace the transfer assy & not just the roller.

the only problem I ever see with the laser unit is polygon mirror motor failure.

              good luck...jay

It turns out to have a bad drum charge connection. I had one of the other guys in the office take a look at it with me. A little conductive grease does a lot for copy quality.
                Thanks everyone for your pointers...
