    [Misc] Ricoh MPc2050 Paper Trays

    Evening,

Has anybody experienced problems with the closing mechanism on the paper trays on the MPc2050 type machines? I replaced a tray for one of the other engineers a couple of weeks ago after they had snapped the securing arm and now the same customer has called to say that neither tray will stay closed.

I'm going out on a limb before I even attend here, but I'm putting it down to idiotic customers!

    Thanks,

    Chris

I am facing the same problem but I never replace the paper tray. You can repair the tray by cutting the side of the old friction pad (you must have old friction pad of that model or friction pad of Aficio 1018, 1015, MP 1600 etc.)Use the side that you cut and secure it with wood screw(better use the screw of the old PCU).Put EPOXY on it so that it will not move. Make sure you set the lever on correct distance as the way it should be. You have to put EPOXY on the hole of the lever and let it dry for sometime then set it to the cut side of the friction pad. Hope it helps!

The last couple I've repaired I've done with a metal L-shaped fixing bracket and four self-tapping screws, it's on as a "part" that we can order on our system but doesn't have an official Ricoh part number.

As for whether it's a weak design or hamfisted customers ..... I think a little from column A and a little from column B

Have had many of these break, to many to be just hamfisted customers. It is a machine obviously built on a budget, we stopped supplying in favor of MPC2500, much better product.

Would you mind sharing a picture with us the next time you've got one of those repaired trays nearby?

I had about a dozen of them break - replaced most of them, repaired a couple. Quite annoying to repair, but I'm always looking for an easier fix if there's any.

          Cheers!

I superglued the bugger and then secured (melted) metal pins (cut-up bits of jumbo paper clips) across the fracture. It worked a treat!

These things really are cheap and nasty designs!

I would't say that superglue is the solution for everything. But as a temporary fix it can make the difference between a working machine and an angry customer.

I understand your anger - if someone glued together my smiley's teeth, I'd be upset too!

The MPC2050/51 range have grown on me as far as budget models go.
There are a few paper feed issues to be aware of and the customers must be educated from word go not to be heavy handed (a good demo at installation does wonders).
But apart from that everything else seems to go to yield and beyond from a servicing point of view.

The MPC2030/2050 series and their successors are great budget machines. I've gown to enjoy them as the service call rates are low and they're fairly easy to service.
