I have an Aficio 1027 that often hangs up while copying and the displays says "copying" and it just sits there with this message. I have to cyple power to get rid of problem. It will do it copying from ADF or on the platen glass. Any help with this problem will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Re: Aficio 1027 Hangs Up while copying
Thanks for the reply Eric. I spoke to a Ricoh tech that said maybe the finisher was causing the problem. I removed finisher and intermiddiate transport and the problem is still there. This copier is used as a standalone copier. I don't see a hard drive, print controller, etc. Would it be difficult to flash the firmware on a machine that is not on the network? Do you think doing a memory clear would help?Comment

Re: Aficio 1027 Hangs Up while copying
Don't panic and clear the memory yet! Look at SC7403 for the last 10 SC codes for a clue.
Flashing the firmware is easy but you need the proper type of 4M memory card.sigpic

Re: Aficio 1027 Hangs Up while copying
If the machine has the HDD option installed, unplug the hard drive and see what happens. A bad HDD will also cause this. If I remember right you need to pull the rear cover and it should be down below the controller. Run a diagnostic report from the SMC menu. At the top it will say HDD:existence if one is installed.
Uh, never mind. I just reread your post and see that it has no print controller or HDD.NEVER ASSUME ANYTHINGComment

Re: Aficio 1027 Hangs Up while copying
I pulled up the last 10 fault codes and it has 7 991 faults, 2 670, and 1 955. The 991 is a "Software Continuity Error". I wonder if flashing the firmware as Eric suggested might fix the problem?Comment

Re: Aficio 1027 Hangs Up while copying
- Stuck on "copying" can be caused by so many different things, firmware is one but easier things first.
- First, be sure you don't have an HDD (even if you don't have a print option it can be installed for Document Server)- is there a hard key on the control panel that says "Document Server"? If so, disconnect the HDD after powering off, then power back up - is the error gone?
- A bad memory dimm can cause it, remove one or both and clean the contacts.
- Pull all of the paper drawers out (not sure if this will help isolate it on this model, on bigger mfps that have a piece of paper stuck in the drawer contacts can cause this).
- Pull out and reseat the PCU, if you have a spare try using it (funky charge/ground problems is a possibility)
- A defective BCU board (that would be my last choice)
- Firmware update will require a tech with the 4MB pc card and Memory Explorer software
