May sound odd (it is) but I was asked by a used wholesale dealer if there was one, so I thought I'd pass it along.
I'm not very familiar with this model and these folks were trying to tell me of an issue they were having
swapping out Post Script chips from machine to machine. And that they were having to swap entire PCB's
to get them to work.
Example they gave me:
Customer (retailer) comes in and buys a machine for resale...looks like a new one with a decent meter but does not have PS which
the retail end customer wants. So this wholesale place goes back out to their inventory and pops out the PS chip from a
different MPC5501. Install it into the nice looking machine and thats where the problems begin. So they end up having swapping
out the entire (not sure of the right name for the board) PCB that the PS chip is on...screwing up the correct meter count.
So trying to be ethical they wondered if there was a "better" way to do this or a mechanical meter to show the customer the
original correct meter count.
Ok I think I've done my good deed for the day. (helping wholesaler with their problem)
Now I have to get ready to go get my machine from them to deliver tomorrow.
Any help with the PS swap or mechanical meter question is greatly appreciated!
Merry Christmas to all
