Well when you mentioned UAC I thought that we may have somthing there. I turned it off but it did not help. Yes, you are right, this computer is not in a domain. In fact it is a laptop we have in the office. We exprienced this problem in the field on the same os at a custamers location. Then we tried it in the office. Same problem. It does seem to have somthing to do with Authintication. I just dont know where. Like I said, all other computers in the network under XP or 2000 have no trouble but when you try to send it to this Vista machine, forget it. I have seen some bullitens about SMB being upgraded due to a security breach but no one has come up with a fix for this case. I think you for spending time on this posting. Im just sure there has been someone out there with this same problem.

Yeah many times firmware solves all kinds of wierd problems. Sometimes I think it's not even from the update itself but rather from just overwriting the old one to give it that little kick in the butt.Peace sells, but who's buying?Comment

Thank you everyone for all your ideas. The firmware did the trick. As soon as I looked at the readme on the firmware NIB V.418 I knew this was it. This firmware for the DSC428 resolved the issue of not being able to scan back to vista machines. Thanks again for all your help.
Sorry if I offended you cmpelser, honestly I didnt even see that page. Wish I had, it would have saved me a lot of trouble. Plus eveyone here wanted to insist it was not the copier.Comment
