One possible issue is the machine's internal hard-drive, I have had "infinite spool" and "Please Wait" printing errors before now that have been resolved by either reformatting or sometimes replacing the HDD. Has the machine ever displayed SC860/865/870 either in a red box on the LCD, or down in the bottom left corner? If so then your HDD is probably the culprit.

I thought of that. But I've not had any type of error on the copier itself. It's weird but I managed to get ONE pdf uploaded to the doc server this morning. No doubt after the correct sequence of powering off then on again the computer and copier. Unfortunately I haven't been able to duplicate the sequence so I got more errors in the printer queue. How do you reformat the hard drive?

Format with SP5832. But if you have an address book, it will be gone, back it up to a desktop.
Still got that tech coming?

I thought we had a maintenance agreement with one company but I was mistaken. And they seem to want an arm and a leg for service. So now we're shopping around to see if we can find someone to come out. Since we've got a big red streaking issue too.

I found my way into service mode and reformatted the drive. it's back up and running now. I'm trying to print to the doc server as I type this.

Ok. So hard drive reformatted and I'm now several documents into uploading anew. Could this be indicative of an impending hard drive failure? Or did I just need to clear out all the detritus and start fresh?

Is there a different/easier way to get files onto the document server besides printing to it?

If you have hard copies, you can scan them in. Even without copying

I guess that the HDD can get so fragmented over time that it finally gets overloaded with all of the seeking it has to do, not really sure. In regards to your last question, Jomama46 is correct that the only other way is to scan in hard copies. Two ways to scan them in is to use the Doc Server or use Scan File in the Scanner section. If you scan them in to the Document Server, you will be able to print them out at the device or from the web interface. If you use the Scan File, you have the benefit of being able to download those documents back to your PC in PDF or TIFF format using the web interface.

Nah. That's no good. That's making a copy of a copy. I've got the source files on my computer already. It'd be silly to print them out then scan them in just to get them back onto the doc server. Plus they'd be images and definitely not look as good.

I was just thinking it would be nice if you ftp or connect to the drive somehow and just copy the docs you wanted over to the doc server. You know. Like a real server.

There's always the Fiery option (E3000), that can be configured as an FTP server. It may be overkill but would handle your PS documents nicely. Though I'm not sure that it can be added as an accessory after delivery, all reference calls it the G899/MPC250efi.
