Just after some discussion or answers - The developer units become pressurised during operation (there are pressure relief filters and the 9001 even has a pressure release tube from the recyle unit - so pressure is a recognised issue). It would be reasonable to assume the toner station is also taking pressure. So what has my interest at the moment is the toner hopper swings into position over the dev unit and locates on two pins on the frame, there is a felt seal on the hopper but it doesnt appear to be a tight seal against the dev unit (because of the locating pins). Is this a source of toner dusting and does anybody adjust this situation

On top of the toner supply unit is the classification assembly(toner separation case). The top of the toner recycling pipe rests on that seal. When that seal gets worn it will start dusting quite a bit in that area. I replace them every 600K or sometimes sooner. When dusting bad in the area your talking about, I replace the toner hopper assembly as a whole. The chuck starts sticking and the toner bottle seal wears, as well as the seal on the bottom.Comment

This one has been playing on my mind since I read it, so I did a bit of digging. If you look in the parts catalogue excerpts, you'll see a seal, item 25. It doesn't look like anything I've seen on any Martini's developer unit so I ordered one. Lo and behold, there IS a seal you can add to the top of the toner chute that would help with toner dusting.
MP6001 Toner Hopper.pdfIt's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.
Hit it.Comment

a legend true !! .....the main point tho is the hopper locates to the frame and not the developer unit. you know youve got a duster (usually high vol) when you rock up to a machine and see dust coming out the vents above the bypass tray. I guess the root cause is the pressure and plugging holes is gunna just cause a leak somewhere else.Last edited by BLADE; 02-10-2012, 04:02 AM.Comment
