MP 3550 tray heater melted bottom paper casette

I had problems with damp paper on an Mp 3550 a number of weeks ago. I fitted a tray heater to one of these machines. Problem solved ,happy days...or so Id thought. I have used tray heaters many times before to good effect, especially on machines in prefabricated poorley heated buildings on contruction sites.
Anyway I got a call for this machine for jamming. When I arrived on site I could just about pull the bottom paper casette out of the machine. When I inspected the drawer I found it had been very badly melted and warped by the tray heater, so much so that I will have to replace the complete paper casette. Obviously I disconnected the tray heater.
Has anybody had a similar problem before.

Was it an OEM heater and the one recommended for this model. I have never had one mess up like that.
    MP 3550? what is that?
