    MP C4500 with SC553

I've been working with another tech to try and resolve an issue with an MP C4500 throwing SC553's from time to time.

We have changed the IH fan (as per the global knowledge base) and IH board ('cause we had one handy) and adjusted SP1-917-001 to 10 and SP1-917-002 to 200 (as per Goose's Guide). The unit has new rotation and ferrite roller HP sensors and a recent fusing unit replacement. The error was coming up during 'long jobs', which during testing turned out to be about 600 pages. Following the changes in SPs (no improvement with the parts) I was able to run 3000 pages and did not get the error. I did notice occasional pauses in printing activity that did not seem to be normal process control and was almost expecting the SC to pop up, but it didn't. Well the code came up today.

The change in SP settings forces it to check and adjust the ferrite roller home position more often. Anyone experience issues with the mechanical drive of the ferrite roller leading to it being mis-positioned during a job and resulting in the overheat SC?

Had the same with an MP C3500. Replaced sensors, IH-Converter, Fusing Unit, but no result. I got this SC almost every monday morning. I replaced the Fusing Unit with a new one and never saw it again. The strange thing is that this "faulty" Fusing Unit is now running fine in another MP C4500.

            Hi there!
Had 2 times this strange problem at high volume, find out that the (tiny) screws holding the bushing of the pulse-plate (dont know the right word in english-the flower-looking-plate) are loose. Since then checking them at every working on the fusingunit there are no problems.
The other thing was, that the little fan near by the sensors blew dust & toner in the sensorslits.
            Greetings...

              Hi guys!

Replace the IOB Fusing Thermopile. PN: AW10 0106
Easily located if you remove the bridge.
              Should solve the issue.

Thanks to those who replied, but alas too late. The point is now moot as the machine has been replaced, issue unresolved. I will now never know what was causing the issue.

I know I'm too late but I'll check my two cents worth in anyway.

Yes, I have found machines that have cracked a gear in the ferrite roller positioning drive, AB01 0138, this will cause intermittent problems getting the ferrite roller into the correct position in time.

Also the mystery fusing SC that goes away when a new fuser is fitted only to reappear when the fuser is only a third of its way through its life is usually caused by the fuser drive motor slowly dying. A new fuser has a nice stiff hot/foam roller and has less rolling resistance, as the roller ages it gets softer and needs more torque to turn it thus runs slower thus brings up SC's
At least 50% of IT is a solution looking for a problem.
