mp 2550 wont scan in color off the glass

When making copies off the glass the image is light and sligfhtly distorted and when the color option is selected for scanning to folder it wont transmit in color.
any suggestions maybe a faulty board? I had cleaned the mirrors and all the optics as well. Thanks

Couple of things to try for scanning:

Firmware, updates never hurt...
What's the DPI of the scanner set to? It may be too high. Usually about 300x300 will do the trick, though colour sometimes makes a pretty large file so also try 200x200.
Check the RAM DIMMs. You may have one flaking out on you.

As for copies, check the shield glass for the laser, it sounds like there may be a toner haze on it; also look at the fuser.

Is the dpi in svc mode or in scanner features i couldnt find the pemanemt setting

When you press the scanner key, you will see in the upper left corner of the LED the current scan settings. touch scan settings and go to resolution and select the size, ie 200X200. If you want this to be the default settings, press the program button, choose program as default,( or something like that), and keep saying yes, and exit,.
