I am getting a light gray background on this unit . I replaced the transfer belt and cleaned up all the shafts inside of it . this did not help. Is this a dev problem or a drum problem ?

Re: MP 4500 light gray background
X2 on cleaning the mag roller. i would say it is time to clean out the dv unit, scrub the mag roller clean, and replace the developer. also, clean the pcu out as well and contemplate replacing the drum, blade, and charge roller, depending on the copy count. 150K is the PM interval, but most of the time, these machines don't make it that far.Comment

Re: MP 4500 light gray background
Here are 2 bulletins that address the issue. As far as the updated dev sleeve with a coating, I'm not sure how effective that has been. I've resorted to using a brass bristle brush (toothbrush size) to scrub the surface gently (in the direction of the grooves -front to rear), that cleans out the grooves effectively where just scrubbing the surface with scotchbrite or paper leaves them filled in.
I also agree with the others to start fresh with new pcu, charge roller, blade and dev. Pretty much guarantee the prints will look great.Comment

Re: MP 4500 light gray background
My thought is that the polmerized toner is a smaller particle than regular toner.
I am going to try adjusting the doctor blade gap to a tight 0.30 mm.
Any other thoughts on this. Why do they call it common sense?
If it were common, wouldn't everyone have it?Comment

Re: MP 4500 light gray background
I've been using 0.35mm on the MP4000/5000 and related with success, I don't see why tightening the gap should be an issue so long a density remains acceptable. They seem to run cleaner with a slightly narrower gap. Remember everything has its limit...Comment
