I can't figure out why the faxes will not come in but I can send out fine. Has anyone seen an issue with this model not receiving faxes for some reason? When I call the machine with on-hook dial, I can hear the cry from it. Could it be a voltage problem with the telephone line not being strong enough? It sends faxes just fine. Any help thanks!

If you call the fax from on hook dial, you are calling the wrong phone number.
Call your cell from the fax and your caller id will give you the phone number.
If you call a fax from it's own modem you should hear a fast busy signal, not another fax.Why do they call it common sense?
If it were common, wouldn't everyone have it?Comment

Re: Ricoh MP161MFP / Savin 816MF not receiving faxes - sends sucessfuly
Hey thanks but I am calling the machine from another location outside the area. Actually from several locations. It just won't receive so I am thinking it is a setting of some kind if it isn't weak voltage. Is there a rest for the settings maybe?Comment

It can be a ringing voltage problem, some machines won't pick up the line when the voltage is below a certain level. But first make sure your machine is connected to the right fax number, like nmfaxman said.Comment

Re: Ricoh MP161MFP / Savin 816MF not receiving faxes - sends sucessfuly
I just called the customer and they are now receiving and I just sent one sucessfully. Two attemps failed this morning. So if it is intermittant, I am assuming a low voltage situation. Thanks for all the suggestions. I told him to call Verizon and have the voltage stepped up. I am wondering if they will really do that though. I had this problem before in an old building. I guess the wiring is not that great after so many years.Comment

You can also switch to a different country (CC-parameter). I'm living in the Netherlands and sometimes it works to set the CC-parameter to UK, USA, or Intl. Different countrys have different (phone) network parameters, and sometimes it works changing to other country settings.
If the machine is on a VOIP-line, it can also be necessary to program the CSI (fax number).Comment

we were having the same problem at a hospital who switched to voip phones, the ring signal voltage was too low and it would intermittantly pick up, but more times than not it wouldn't. We changed an NCU parameter that took care of it.. I'll have to look it back up and let you know. After changing it, it now picks up everytime.Comment

Re: Ricoh MP161MFP / Savin 816MF not receiving faxes - sends sucessfuly
If the machine is on a voip line, these would be the best settings :
NCU-Parameters :
C.C. 002
01 006
02 016
03 052
04 255
05 000
06 002
07 015
08 015
09 144
10 001
11 058
12 060
13 040
14 002
15 033
16 033
17 070
18 070
19 017
20 004
21 034
22 034
Bitswitches :
G3 switch 01 Bit 4 = 1
G3 switch 03 Bit 2 = 0
G3 switch 03 Bit 0 = 1
Only use 2 middle wires on the RJ11-connector.Comment

Re: Ricoh MP161MFP / Savin 816MF not receiving faxes - sends sucessfuly
Has the customer plugged anything else into the phone line? Burglar alarms, EFTPOS machines and computer modems can cause havoc.
We are having big problems at the moment with Cisco PABX systems, they seem to have a problem with impeadence mis-match, if you turn the speaker on in the fax you can hear both faxes trying to talk to each other but they can't hear each other. I've tried telling Cisco that its their problem as eveything worked nicely before they turned up but its like complaining to your Mother-in-Law about your wife.At least 50% of IT is a solution looking for a problem.Comment

Re: Ricoh MP161MFP / Savin 816MF not receiving faxes - sends sucessfuly
OK..here's what we do on an LF312..fax service mode ncu parameter 2 we change it's value to 8.
If I'm reading the service manual right, we are changing theAcceptable ringing signal frequency:range 1, upper limit
hope this helps.

loks like it's the same parameter for this machine too.Comment

I can't claim credit for that one Jonezy, I think I borrowed it from Alan Bond who was complaining about the New York Yacht Club back in the days we all thought he was a bonza bloke before he went to goal for fraud and tax evasion. At least 50% of IT is a solution looking for a problem.Comment
