I can't claim credit for that one Jonezy, I think I borrowed it from Alan Bond who was complaining about the New York Yacht Club back in the days we all thought he was a bonza bloke before he went to goal for fraud and tax evasion.

Only use 2 middle wires on the RJ11-connector.

good hint and probably the solution for this issue - if TX works flawless it's unlikely that the modem parameters are bad

Have you tried turning off ECM? I always disable this when installing a fax. It's Fax SP 1-104-002. Change bit 0 to off.
