    Ricoh mp 2550

Light copies on ricoh 2550, drum unit has 50k, the spring loaded toner door on pcu was rigged open by some previous tech. Is it common to have problems with this door opening when inserted into copier? Is it ok to tape this toner door open. And are there any suppliers cheaper than Precision; to buy drum units from. Thanks in advance for any help on this

Never had problems with the toner on this model, besides customers who break the green cam handle. Do a 60K PM (rebuild PCU and pour in a fresh bag of developer).

On this model you dont need to get a whole PCU just the drum, blade, charge roller, and charge cleaning roller and Developer. I think the parts are cheaper then getting a while pcu. I would also check the PM on the last transfer roller, i don't replace them much but it is recommended at 120k. Then if you have a mess of toner make sure the ID sensor is clean and the laser glass is clean. The toner door on the PCU is probably ok being taped open as long as it stays open, I think this model as a little spring loaded arm that opens the shutter when its pushed into the machine if that arm got broke the tech might have taped it open so toner can drop in the from the hopper, shouldnt really cause a problem the shutter is always open when the pcu is in the machine. Also make sure to clean the mag roller when you PM it, and be sure to check your developer gear and idle gear on the mag roller its common for these to get chewed up and your mag roller wont turn.

In my opinion, not worth the time, trouble, and increased failure rate to rebuild these units. Install an OEM Type 1027 unit and you're done, and I don't think precision is too expensive when you consider the reliability, and time saving, and inevitable increase in service calls from the rebuild

Question will a PCU type 1027 work in a Ricoh mp2550? Part #s are different

It sure will, just like I stated above.
FYI, despite the difference in design, the 1027/2027 fuser unit is interchangeable into the 2550/3350 , and a lot more sturdy in my opinion

Thats interesting info, we have also installed the whole PCU on the 1027 model but we rebuild the 2550's its about $100 cheaper for us to rebuild it but would be nice on us techs to not have to rebuild in the field. I checked that precision site i guess at a retail cost the pcu itself would be like 250.00 cheaper then buying all the parts individualy.

Do you have better luck just using the PCU vs the rebuilds, we rebuild both fusers with the same parts so the cost is the same. I guess from machine to machine both the rebuilt pcu and the whole pcu seem to last about the same, the fusers beings their the same parts seem to pretty much go their lifespan to.
