[Misc] Car Wax / Polish on Charge Roller

So I've searched on the internet and other forums about technicians "waxing" charge rollers and drums to get a longer life out of them. I talked to a tech who worked for a small company that put car wax on the charge rollers and he said they had good results. I have to see it for myself to believe it as well as review the long term effects on print quality. I'm a person who likes to test limits and am open to experimenting with new ideas but I am somewhat skeptical to this one. I've recently tried using a liquid synthetic wax, Turtle Wax I think, as opposed to a paste on a select few machines. So far I have had mixed results but it's relatively early in the experiment. So I 'm still on the fence about whether or not this really does work.

I would like to know if any of you have tried this with good results and if so what product did you use.

    Thanks in advance!

Re: Car Wax / Polish on Charge Roller

We do and we dont. Depends on the charge roller. We use Nu-Finish polish for drums and I will use it sometimes to clean a charge roller like on the color models with that plastic pucky green color charge roller but the trick is to make sure you use a lot to wet it or you can scratch the roller, after then you have to let it get really dry so you can wipe off the film that it leaves behind if you dont and it dries later it can leave a film that affects copy quality as long as it dries and its really clean they work fine. On the smaller models with the black rubber type charge rollers I will do it if I need to clean it and theres not bathroom close by, if I can help it I just take it to the bathroom and wash it with soap and water and let it dry, wax on those can sometimes leave filmy stuff that affects the copies. At least thats my exerience with it.

We always polish the drum, and the cleaning blades but I really only wax the plastic color machine charge rollers, the black ones I don't. I have however used wax on a bad transfer belt the paper thin ones for the dsc460 and 365 models, if they got a label or something stuck on them, i will clean off the label with alcohol then wax the area, ive been successful at prolonging a transfer belt with polish.
