I never upgrade firmware by LAN-connection. When the connection is lost for a second you can be in big trouble on some models.

If memory serves, printing alone to these boxes was enough of an adventure. These are from back in the days before machine integration. Each function was independent of the others. This was also why you'd need extra control boards as opposed to just an SD card or more RAM.

Firmware by LAN didn't become available until fourth generation digital machines (AF 3xxx). For these old tanks you're stuck with a PCMCIA card and XP for firmware.
