    MP6500

I Have a MP6500 which had a developer leak which contaminated the paper feedheads, After fixing the leak and refurbing the feedheads with new clutches i am still getting some J12, J8, J9 jams. After such an event are the feedheasd scrap or should the new clutches been enough to make the heads good. any where else i should look ?

What clutches? These feed units have motors. You can refurb the feed units with replacement one-way bearings and clean the hell out of the bushings and shafts. Failing that just replace them. Pricey way of doing it though.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

    Hit it.

They do have motors, you are (inevitably) correct. The toner gets into the motors too, slowing them down, but you can tell by turning it by hand. If it's stiff, replace it.

Go armed with a new tin of WD40 and some platenclene type thingy and all should be well.

Of course the first thing to do is to swap the whole tray 1 feed unit with tray 3 and see whether the fault moves...

From what i have seen in machs in this series in which have done high volume and dev tanks leak firstly it is a result of stretching developers and also could be dev tank fatigue. The main dev tank bushing wears at the rear of the tank which caused leaking down into the feed station. What i have done in the past is remove feed stations and replaced as rebuilding them dont work regardless of how much you try and clean them. You may also have to remove the rego unit out and blow out the mach as you will find dev gets into that as well. Good luck. Just my 2 cents worth.

thanks for relpies, it does seem that as much as i clean them up and replace the one way gears i never get them going again, havent tried replacing the motors though, might be my last shot before replacing the whole feedhead.

If the leak was at the front as well the motors are probably shot, as mentioned.

If the jams are only from trays 2 and 3, have you changed the one way gear on the vertical transport drive above tray 2?

Have you checked the one way bearings in the reg unit?

If you are checking the reg unit, make sure the black mylar guides are not worn.

Change the dev bushings or you'll be doing this again in 6 weeks.
