    savin 2400WD RW-240 software reinstall

I'm hoping someone can help me. I have a customer with a Savin 2400WD wide format, with a RW-240 controller. Their computer containing Plotbase crashed. This machine was sold when we were a Savin dealer, which we no longer are, since we were bought out. I did 1 2400WD with a controller about 7 years ago with another dealer, but don't remember much in the way of the steps. Basically I'm trying to find out if we're dead in the water. What would I need to be able to reinstall, in terms of software, licenses, etc.? We're trying to find out if there is any of the original documentation still floating around, but it's not looking good. I know the whole process involved something with RSP files, but I really don't remember much of the process. Does anyone have wisdom they can pass along on this? Please let me know if you need additional details. I wasn't even sure where to start. Thanks a bunch!

Re: savin 2400WD RW-240 software reinstall

The vendor of the software in europe went belly up a few years ago, so if you dont have the original disks, you are doomed, if you are not able to get access to a ricoh technical login site. (maybe savin, lanier etc have also the possibility, i can only speak for ricoh and for europe region here).
If you have the original software, it should contain a cd and a 3,5'' Floppy Disk containing the license file. If you need to build a new PC, you must pay attention to the fact, that the motherboard must not have graphics on bord, you need a seperate graphic card. The reason is, that onboard graphic cards use "shared memory" even if disabled by bios settings, while the software needs an undivided memory block. The effect without seperate card would be that the printouts all of a sudden shifts a few cm to the left or to the right. Also you need a Floppy drive, because the software asks for it while doing the installation. If i remember correctly, there are issues with multi core cpu's so use single core. In addition you need a win2000 or xp version, it will not work under vista or win7.

Thanks for the quick response. The customer found some disks and supposed license info, but he is 100 miles away, so I don't know what he found yet (trading voicemail). Does the floppy disk w/ the license file also apply to licenses for scanning, or other licenses, or is that just the controller itself? I remember back in the day having to go a website (I believe rspfiles.com) to do something with licensing, but that doesn't seem to exist now, so I'm assuming that's part of what went "belly up".

I must admit, that it is a few years ago for me wrestling with this software, but if i remember correctly, i did not need to enter a website, the license files were on the floppys, print and for scan also. If you have time unitl tomorrow, i will ask my team mate and response tomorrow.

If you have the original equipment installed on the machine you can oftain a number from Ricoh by giving them the numbers that are on the controller card. This will tell them what your machine is licensed for. the rsp website youare referring to no longer exists. Here is a contact for you. One of the guys that originally worked on the software is now employed there. I have had several customers contact them and they were able to help with there problems. I'm not sure what they charged if anything. I do know you can get also upgrade to Vista as I have this on equipment.
          Ricoh RW-240W Plotbase 3.7.3 Upgrade with Win 7 Support [RW-240-UPGD-373PB] - $1,190.20 : J2 Blueprint Supply Co, Online Store
