Thank you for the kind words...we all should help each other, we all have bills to pay, mouths to feed. Sometimes we follow the path in front of us and you end up being a copier technician, there are no stupid questions...just stupid answers (damn that was deep...must be the beer talking....lol)

Yeah we're all here to help each other....... But there are somethings that should'nt be attempted by some techs.. Firmware is one of them. I hope the help is here for Stupidkiller if the firmware update goes E32 or the machine won't boot or he inadvertantly kills the controller!!! BUY THE MANUAL!!!

Re: how to update firmware ?

Well I think it's a wastre of money to buy the manual (hello copyright btw.) just for this purpose since the procedure is easy and probably already explainded various times in this forum (I didn't bothered to search but I can imagine this isn't the first threat about ricoh firmware update basics). And even beside this - there's often quite a discrepancy between the theory and how things work/needs to be fixed in practice. I'm just a bit surprised if people claimed to be professional techs without knowing the basics about the things they like to support. At the end of the day I only see a high chance that there's another dissapointed customer loosing trust in our business thanks to some wannabe MacGyvers.

Yes indeed ,I am agreed with Gift too.Manuals should be free .I have some manuals nad anyone may P.M me and I will send the manual if that will be available with me.
Another thing I want to clear that Many of us have not good proffeciency in English being 2nd language for them, and the procedure have to stuffed in their mind.I am one of them(LOL).So It's must to elaburate the procedure for us.Unfortunately we are almost a decade back with respect to developed countries. Our experience is almost on older models. For example we are working with RUssian C2,C3 & C4.
However COPYTECHNET is a great opportunity for me.

Keep in mind that a lot of techs had to do exams to "earn" the service manual, parts lists, modification bulletins etc. So I don't agree with your statement that manuals should be free. I'm working mostly on Ricoh, Kyocera, and Oki machines and to get service manuals, parts lists, firmware, and support from manufacturers I have to pass exams, tests etc. BTW, manuals in the hands of unexperienced people can do more harm than good.

Like stupidkiller, who wants firmware but doesn't know how to load it...

Re: how to update firmware ?

I don't have to pass exams in order to get manuals from our manufacturers. As a service partner we get access to online service portals that offers complete archives or service/parts manuals, tech-bulletings and firmware. Exams are optional - either made online or in classroom training. TBH I don't think these are worth much, especially since we mostly have to do boring online exams without having a chance to meet other techs in person. Btw - that was basicly the main reason why I liked to get trained in classroom, meeting other techs and get some drinks afterwards, speaking about the business/machines/sharing tips and whatever - THAT was much more worth to me than the actual exam

So I think service mannuals should be free if a tech already has (not so much outdated) experience with a brand. I like to help out for free if people prooved themself worthy enough participating here (= not anothing begging-for-manuals-shitstorm via PM please, messages will be deleted immediately).

                    Dear Seniors,
You all are more experienced and I always have the required expertise and guidance from your posts and Eric's concern about end users and non techs is true. But I am of the view that it is sole responsibility of an end user who use a service manual with operator's Manual.Just imagine that my spouse is overhauling my Beetle(VW) and I am trying to make a meal and both of us have related documentation.
Only the service manual could not help a newbie but give him some theoratical understanding.
The field experience is more important than tests and exams online.
I am having a lot guidance and expertise from my seniors at copytechnet besides the manuals and some of the manuals from my kind seniors.
In our country and others like this ,we have to use the 2nd hand units through resellers as latest models and expensive consumables could not be afforded by our people.

Once Eric1968 guided me very well for AFICIO 2045e and his kind breifs are still in my mind.

I forgot to give my family's introduction. My spouse is a housewife and I works in field for hours in field and kitchen is a nightmare for me(LOL).

Ricoh provides firmware for free for trained techs. If you're loading firmware, you'll have to know exactly what you're doing. Loading the wrong firmware can have serious consequences. I only load firmware when it solves a problem or adds something to the configuration of the machine. If a machine runs fine without problems, I don't update firmware.
