    SP C242DN Please Wait

This machine is on a very large network and will hang on "Please Wait" if booted while the ethernet cable is connected or if I let the machine come to a "Ready" state then connect the ethernet, the machine will freeze when the NIC initializes.

I have had this machine connected to my workshop network and all is fine, print, scan everything works fine, the same is true when hooked up via crossover cable.

What I have noticed this morning is when I returned the machine to the customer to do some more tests, I could input any IP address other than the IP IT has reserved for this machine and the machine will not hang, however, I still can not ping or get WIM to respond. As soon as I set it back to the original, the machine will freeze.

I have passed this one on to the customers IT as I believe it must be an issue on their side, but I would just like to ask if any of the network techs here have anything that might be of relevance to this issue.

    Cheers
    J.

I had this a couple of weeks ago; it turned out that the imbecile IT manager had given me a duplicate IP address.

    Hope that this helps!

It's gotta be something along those lines. The machine has been on site for around 3 months now and just suddenly stopped, so I guess the IT has installed another device and it has buggered this one.

      Cheers for the reply.

If the display shows initialising all the time and hangs we had one a few weeks ago and it turned out to be a dry joint on the power supply PCB.

As it only freezes when it's connected to the network, I'd go for a duplicate IP address.

I would though, I said it!

So glad you have time to write comments that dont concern the fault, I gave another option to 'hanging' or someones interpretation on the description which is why I described the fault 'Initialising' on the display. I have over thirty years in the copier industry and can offer advise, true to say that I am new to this forum, But with comments like yours, you will put people off from trying to help. I promise if you have any weird and wonderful faults, I will not be posting any advise for you. Good luck for the future.

I have more than 8 centuries of experince in the copier industry and thought that was harsh, Simon was trying to help. As he said, comments like that will dissuade others from offering assistance in the future.

Comments like mine earlier are intended to keep the thread on track.

Just a friendly reminder to simon.

P.S. As for not posting on any more of my faults, that's cool, I don't really need advice that won't help.

For many millennia I have travelled through space and time fixing copiers along the way and if there's one thing that I've learnt it's this:

There's no such thing as bad advice, only bad engineers following it.

I just made that up, but I think that it's rather catchy.

Who said anything about bad advise? Irrelevant maybe.
WTF is this? Have a whinge week!!!
While we are at it, Simon, you have 30 years experience in this industry but you don't read fault descriptions thoroughly, I'd say you have wasted 30 years.
