    Scanning to mail from a Ricoh Aficio 1515 connected to router

    hello.
    i have a lot of this Aficio 1515 models
    connected to my network at the office and sending scans to email via an exchange server and it works fine.

    on a remote location i have a few computers connected via router and the printer is also connected to the router
    and has an ip address.
    i would like to know how can i use this printer to scan to this computers mail?
    do i need to set up a sort of virtual mail server? does scan router do that?

      A couple of questions:

      Are you trying to scan using the same email domain as the main office?

      Is the remote office tied into the network for the main, or do you have to use VPN or other methods to communicate?

      ScanRouter's only purpose was to act as a bridge for SMB scanning, it has nothing to do with scan to email at all.

          no,
          the remote location is connected to the main office via VPN.
          basically you can consider it as an independed location with a few computer all connected to a router
          as well as the printer.

          i want to be able to deliver scans via the router to mail or to the computers desktop if possible.
          at the main office its easy cuz i got an exchange mail server, but i don't know how to set it up
          when all you got is a router.

              If the Exchange server allows an external connection without SSL, then you should be able to just put in the public facing IP or fully qualified name of the SMTP server into the machine and have it work, so long as you have properly authenticated account to connect to the server.

                  no i don't want to use the exchange server at the main office.
                  i want that remote office to be on its own.
                  think of it as a home with 3 computer and this awful printer all connected to a router.

                  how do i get the printer to send scans to either of the computers? doesn't have to be email but i think its the only option right?

                      Scan to folder all the way I'm afraid.
                      It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

                          didn't understand you...
                          you mean i can scan to a folder only? thats not an issue
                          how do i do that?

                              scan to email via google/yahoo you'll need to use stunnel for the ssl

                              stunnel: stunnel - multiplatform SSL tunneling proxy

                              scan to foldder needs scanrouter(not supported by Ricoh since 2007ish) for this model the link in this post by kopykat has it

                                  You need a SMTP server with this model. Newer machines has the capability of scanning to email using smtp.google.com.I've tried it with MPC4501 and was successful. Aficio 1515 doesn't support SSL over SMTP newer machine like MPC4501 has the feature.

                                      stunnel takes care of the ssl. install the service on a pc and configure it to gmail/yahoo...then use the pc with stunnel installed for the smtp server on the copier.

                                          Agreed, stunnel is a great option in this situation, just requires that the PC where stunnel is installed be 'on' to function
