The two upper paper trays on this unit dont jive with the document feeder or tray dials. .When I set the tray dial on 8 1/2 X 11 is displays A4 I went to the paper tray settings and tray 1 still says 8 1/2 X 11 but when I go back to the normal copy screen is displays A 4 any ideas ?

Maybe it's that little multi-switch that doesn't read the docing of the format wheel correctly. You can try interchanging the switch with one of the other trays - this can be done quickly to see if the issue moves. Of course that's a bit unlikel if you have two trays making problems. Did it worked before or is it some kind of imported machine from a different market region?
I don't recall the exact display of the tray settings in user tools but IIRC you need to set the wheel to "*" (star) in order to allow using the paper size options in system settings. -

Check also this setting:
5131* Paper Size Type Selection
Selects the paper size (type) for both originals and copy paper.
[0~2 / DIP SW setting / 1 step]
0:Japan
1:North America
2:Europe
After changing the setting, turn the copier off and on. If the paper size of the archive
files stored on the HDD is different, abnormal copies could result. Ask the customer to
restore the archive files.Comment

Re: MP 3010 paper tray settings are metric cant change them
Must be defective push switches (the one's on the machine that the dial comes in contact with).
Strange that they'd both be bad, but that's the only thing I've ever come across as far as not reading the size correctly. They'll usually read some sizes correctly even when they're bad. Do you know if they read any of the other sizes correctly?
(haha..seems gift and sharpmind were a few seconds ahead of me on this one)Comment

I would try those switches in the back of the machine that always pop out of their holders that the cassette side guide activates.Comment

LCDC/OP panel firmware? NA version. Just a thought, and it may be a bad oneI would first check 5131 as sharpmind suggested. As for the size detection switch, 11x 8 1/2 is all switches off.
