toner supply mode on aficio 2045

2208* Toner Supply Mode [0: Sensor control, 1: Image pixel count]
    Selects the toner mode.
If you select 1, SP2-209-002 should be set to its default value. Use image pixel
count modes only as a temporary measure if the ID or TD sensor is defective.

hi. i would like to ask what happens if i choose image pixel count? i understand the process using sensor control but don't know what happens if i choose image pixel count.
why is it used as a temporary measure only? what will happen if i use it permanently?

i remember my old ricoh 5535 (don't know the equivalent to other countries). it had 3 options namely 1.detect toner supply mode, 2.fixed supply mode and 3.td supply mode wherein i used no.2 when my td sensor was defective and there was no td sensor available at that time.
your enlightenment will be highly appreciated.
    thank you.

I've used pixel count a few times in the past when a TD sensor failed. Even running it a few days like that caused an overtoning problem each time, although it was not on this particular model. Leaving 2209-2 at default was part of the problem, I think. Should have probably been lowered. At any rate, your machine will run better on sensor control.

The entire toner supply mechanism doesn't work precisely enough so this machine was never designed to work properly just with pixel count. So it's indeed something one might enable as a very temporary fix.
