Ricoh AF1515 - Fax Reception on cable phone line

I have a client with cable voice and fax lines to his office. He tells me that the fax does not always pick the communication from other machines.
I recall that at one time there was changes to be made for the line attenuation settings in order to receive on a fax machine.
Does any one have any information on what those settings would be?

When I have difficult issues with VoIP lines these are the settings I use. We are effectively 'dumbing down' the machine. It won't be as fast but it will be much more reliable. I have one account that I have had to apply these settings to on many of their units to make things work due to the widespread use of VoIP.Fax bit switches as follows:CommunicationSW01: 00000001SW02: 00000101G3SW03: 01000110SW05: 00001110SW06: 01011110SW07: 00010000SW0A: 00000010

The 1515 is CCITT V34 analog communication protocol. VOIP or digital is ITU T.37 or T.38 digital protocol.
The Salesscum lie that any fax will work.
Two choices the customer has:

1. Pay for 1 analog line for the fax. I recommend metered service. How long does an analog box take to send a fax with analog lines?
Usually 10 seconds per page @ 33.6K. They pay for calls made or received, not a main phone number.
I also tell them that if your computers or electronics go down, they can plug a phone into the fax and place a service call.

2. Upgrade the machine to do scan to e-mail/ folder/ fax forwarding to email.
Faxes are the oldest office machine ever made. (It was designed to work with telegraph.)
Scan to email is faster and there is a more legal stamping for time and confirmation.

I had almost the same problem at an account last year.

The customer's help desk for their switch (name withheld, unfortunately) told me that the analog modem in the switch was meant for data transfers, never for fax.

He also said that it's a known issue with these cards, and the recommended solution was, just as Nmfaxman suggested, a dedicated analog line.

Oddly enough, though, the problem was with the new MPC2050 that we installed. When we borrowed the 1515 from the office next door, it worked just fine on the same line.

We tried every setting known to man for the MPC2050 to get the fax to work, and it never reliably did. The 1515, on the other hand, worked every time.

Weird, just weird...

An analog line made for data transfer is the most ideal line for a fax.
It is made to boost the carrier wave to provide the most clean data transfer.
The newer machines don't know how to handle high speed analog and depend on digital communication.
Converting A/D and D/A is more expensive in board cost than just moving digital information.

Attached are 2 documents, the white paper is Ricoh documentation on VOIP and IP-Fax that gives you the technical side of how it all works (including the VOIP devices and versions that have been confirmed to work on Ricoh mfp's by Ricoh and Cisco). The VOIP word doc is what I found on various Ricoh channels (Solutions, Tech Forum and Global Knowledge Base) that has the recommended settings that should be used when confronted with a VOIP environment. I tried the first group settings changes on a 5502c recently and it worked fine, can't speak for every situation though.
